CHARLES TEXIER: DESCRIPTION DE L’ ASIE MINEURE. PARIS, 1839 First edition, IMPERIAL FOLIO, only the first volume, two more volumes have been published later after many years, contemporary hardboards slightly rubbed, large unnumbered double page map on 2 sheets, eighty one (81) engraved and lithographed plates, two-three detached, one cut short, some light scattered spotting on few pages of the text, plates clean, four plates missing, overall in very good condition. Texier (1802-1871) was a famous French historian and traveler. In the early 1830s he had explored Anatolia, he was among the very first who penetrated deep in the unexplored interior of Asia Minor. He was on a government sponsored mission and had the means to travel in areas never visited before by Europeans. The huge Folio plates of this publication contain amazing early views of Nicaea, Proussa (Bursa), Ankara and many ancient sites in the area. The work had a very limited print run and is almost unobtainable. References: Atabey 1211, Blackmer 1645
