170 - A Jun ware sky-blue glazed box A covered box coated overall in the sky-blue glaze (tianqing you) characteristic of Jun ware. Depending on the light, its tones of blue and grey shift subtly, and the thick, moist-looking glaze surface holds a gentle lustre. Unlike the showy kiln-transmutation (yaobian) effects of purple-red splashes for which Jun ware is famous, this piece allows one to savor the quiet, refined beauty unique to the sky-blue glaze.
