Endter Bible, Nuremberg 1736, with a magnificent binding Biblia, that is, the entire Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments, as translated by Dr Martin Luther … in the year … 1522, into our German mother tongue / completed in the year 1534 / ... With summaries by Mr Johann Sauberti... together with a preface by Mr Michael Dilhern, 1181 pp. + index + Confessio: or Confession of Faith... in Augsburg in the year 1530, title copperplate present, original binding with parchment-covered wooden boards, embossed, bronze fittings at the corners, bronze fitting with a cross centred on the cover, cross appliqué and two Marian figures in bone included, with clasps, folio 38 x 26.5 cm, Endter/Nuremberg 1736 From 1613 to 1792, a period spanning almost two centuries, the successful Endter family in Nuremberg printed the text of Luther’s Bible. Today, the large-format (folio) editions are among the most commonly found family Bibles from the 17th, but particularly from the 18th, century. Relevant bibliographies and catalogues, as well as the holdings of the Württemberg State Library, document 76 editions that were printed by the family business.
