Georg Arnold-Graboné, "In the Windbach Valley", framed oil painting Georg Arnold-Graboné, 1896 Munich - 1982 Buchhof/Starnberg, German Impressionist painter, here: “In the Windbach Valley” - the Windbach Valley is a picturesque south-western side valley of the Krimml Achental in the Pinzgau (Salzburg region, Austria) - oil on canvas, 70 x 80 cm, signed on the right, a few spots in the sky, in need of cleaning; on the reverse, an old, signed original label: “Prof. Arnold Graboné/Ascona” with a certificate of authenticity and the price of DM 780, framedAbout the artist: Georg Arnold-Graboné initially studied in Stuttgart and Vienna. In Vienna, he turned to Cubism and became a member of the ‘Licht-Gruppe’. Soon, however, Graboné discovered traditional landscape painting, as he found little lasting appeal in abstract art. On returning to Munich, Arnold became a master student under Heinrich von Zügel and Leo von König. Following this, Arnold studied in Berlin under Max Liebermann. In 1932, Arnold became a professor at the Zurich Academy of Fine Arts. He later served as its rector. When General Dwight D. Eisenhower acquired a painting by Arnold Graboné in 1951, he also wished to meet the artist in person. Through Eisenhower, Arnold eventually also met Winston Churchill. Churchill asked Arnold to teach him his palette knife technique. In the years that followed, Arnold’s paintings were exhibited worldwide, including at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo and the White House; in addition, paintings are held by the Eisenhower and Kennedy families.
