Portrait painter to the nobility; a stately three-quarter-length portrait from 1737, commissioned to mark the 30th birthday of ‘Eleonora Englmayerin’, featuring a coat of arms; framed oil painting Three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman in rich attire with a five-strand pearl necklace, her brown hair concealed beneath a bonnet. With the index finger of her left hand, the subject points to an open book as a sign of her educated status. On the left is a coat of arms, consisting of a shield bearing a bow and arrow in the upper green field and, in the lower red field, a horizontal arrow piercing a red field. The shield is crowned by a helmet adorned with a figure of a man wearing a red cap and holding a scimitar. On the right of the subject is the inscription: “Eleonora Englmayerin, née Var: Szakmann, born c. 1707, painted c. 1737, oil on canvas, 90 x 68 cm, retouched creases of the canvas on the left half of the picture, minor retouching to the flesh tones and the dress, in a gilded stucco frame
