Andy Warhol, Mercedes-Benz C 111 prototype (1970), from the ‘Cars’ series, silkscreen print, limited edition of 2008 Andy Warhol, 1928 Pittsburgh - 1987 New York, Pop Art, Mercedes-Benz C 111 prototype (1970), motif from the “Cars” series, multi-colour silkscreen print, 53 x 44.5 cm, “Official limited edition of 1,000”, numbered 384, Andy Warhol Foundation/DaimlerChrysler AG, edition and licence stamps, with Andy Warhol embossed stamp, framed under passepartout and glass “The first C 111 was completed in 1969. It had a fibreglass body and a three-rotor fuel-injected Wankel engine mounted in the centre. The three-rotor engine proved not powerful enough for a sports car. The C 111-II was built in 1970. This was followed by a more powerful engine variant. The bodywork was completely redesigned to improve visibility and reduce lift on the front axle. The C 111-II was fitted with a four-rotor Wankel engine producing 275 kilowatts. With this, it reached a top speed of 290 km/h."
