Emil Schumacher, Hommage à Picasso, signed aquatint etching from 1972/73 Emil Schumacher, 1912 Hagen - 1999 San José, Ibiza, painter and exponent of the Informel movement, here: Hommage à Picasso, signed aquatint etching, 55 x 41 cm, signed, numbered XIII/XXX, framed under glass About the artist: Schumacher studied commercial art at the School of Applied Arts in Dortmund from 1931 to 1934. From 1955 onwards, Schumacher gained recognition through his first exhibitions and awards; his participation in the 29th Venice Biennale in 1961, as well as being awarded the Guggenheim Award (National Section) as early as 1958, mark his international breakthrough. In 1959, he took part in documenta II in Kassel. From 1958 to 1960, he held a professorship at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, and from 1966 to 1977 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe.
