Eszter Mattioni, 3 Female Nudes on the Beach, oil painting, framed Eszter Mattioni, 1902 Szekszárd - 1993 Budapest, a leading Hungarian painter of the 20th century, here: 3 Female Nudes Sunbathing on the Beach, oil on panel, 30 x 40 cm, signed on the right, framed About the artist: Eszter Mattioni studied for five years at the School of Applied Arts and subsequently for six years at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts under Gyula Rudnay (1878-1957, a Hungarian painter, graphic artist and university lecturer, regarded as one of the most prominent representatives of the so-called Alföld School (Alföldi festészet)). Between 1931 and 1942, Eszter Mattioni was an active member of the long-established artists’ colony in Szolnok. Study trips took her to Italy and Scandinavia in the mid-1930s, which had a lasting influence on her colour palette and her use of light. Her painting ‘Rustic Bride’ was acquired in 1937 by the Musée du Luxembourg (now part of the Louvre complex) in Paris. Her works are now housed in the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest.
