In 1936, he settled permanently in Witten. In 1948, he co-founded the artists’ group ‘Junger Westen’ and, from 1952, was a member of the German Artists’ Association. From 1953 to 1977, he taught at the Dortmund School of Applied Arts; from 1973 to 1977, he held a professorship in the Department of Design at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences.
