Henry Aston U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Pistol .54 Caliber Henry Aston U.S. Model 1842 percussion pistol, a .54 caliber smoothbore single-shot muzzleloader. The firearm features a round steel barrel with an oxidized patina and a captive swivel ramrod secured by a stud and link system. The walnut stock is dark-stained and fitted with brass furniture, including a single barrel band, a side plate, a trigger guard, and a rounded butt cap. The lock plate is made of steel and finished in the white, though it now displays surface oxidation and pitting. Key markings include the lock plate centered with U.S. and H. ASTON, and the rear of the lock plate marked MIDDtn CONN 1848. The barrel flat is stamped with proof marks and a date, though they are partially obscured by oxidation. 8.5" barrel length. 6" H x 15" L x 2" W. 11D CONDITION: The pistol is in fair antique condition. The steel components, including the barrel and lock, show a dark, aged patina with areas of surface oxidation and moderate pitting, particularly around the muzzle and the percussion bolster. The brass furniture has a dull, natural patina with scattered small dings. The walnut stock remains solid but exhibits a visible hairline crack extending from the rear lock plate screw on the left side, along with typical minor abrasions and surface wear consistent with age. The percussion action appears to function correctly, though it has not been live-fired. The smoothbore is dark with light pitting throughout. NOTICE TO BIDDERS: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
