GASPAR PEETER VERBRUGGEN II THE YOUNGER (1644–1730) Bouquet of Flowers Oil on canvas Dimensions: 44 x 35 cm Provenance: Private collection and Bertolami, Rome. - A Flemish painter of the Antwerp School, renowned for his floral and fruit still lifes, Gaspar Verbruggen was active in Antwerp and The Hague. He also collaborated with other artists, combining figures with still-life elements. Trained from a young age by his father, he became a master of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp in 1677–1678, at the age of only 13. His style was notably inspired by the Italian artists Mario Nuzzi and Michele Pace del Campidoglio, although the work of the French painter Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer also influenced him. His works represent an evolution toward a more decorative style in late 17th-century Flemish still life.
