Fragments of a painted frieze with heraldic decoration, 17th century (or earlier)—metopes? A collection of painted wood fragments forming the remains of an antique decorative frieze, likely from a chest, wainscoting, or piece of furniture. Polychrome decoration dominated by red and black, composed of stylized motifs: coats of arms, medallions, crosses, and foliage. A hypothetical reconstruction allows for the creation of a coherent horizontal frieze (shown in the illustration). Condition: heavily deteriorated—wood worm-eaten, damage, missing pieces, wear. 17th century or earlier (to be confirmed). Sold as is. Length: approximately 37 cm
