BERTAUT (Jules). Voltaire. 41 portraits and documents. Paris, Société des Éditions Louis-Michaud, undated (circa 1920). In-8, Bradel binding in salmon-colored half-cloth with bands, red title label, covers preserved. Published in the series *La Vie anecdotique et pittoresque des Grands Écrivains*, this work by Jules Bertaut vividly recounts Voltaire’s life, from his literary beginnings to his final triumph in Paris. The author focuses on anecdotes, correspondence, travels, literary disputes, and major episodes in the philosopher’s life, offering an accessible and well-documented portrait of one of the leading figures of the Age of Enlightenment. The book is richly illustrated with 41 portraits and documents reproduced both in the text and as inserts, including depictions of Voltaire, his contemporaries, his residences, and numerous visual records related to his life and work. These illustrations are one of the main attractions of this publication. This copy is bound in an elegant modern Bradel-style half-salmon-colored cloth binding, with the original covers preserved. The interior is in fresh condition despite slight natural yellowing of the paper. Overall, the book is in good presentation.
