Edgard AUGUIN (1844–1902), Lorraine. Ink drawing on paper depicting an aerial view of Malzéville from Nancy, signed and dated 1884. 30.5 x 23 cm (image size). Minor foxing. The Malzéville Bridge and its distinctive piers are clearly recognizable, along with its narrow deck, which had not yet been widened. Above it are the famous horse-drawn streetcars that were a favorite subject of caricaturists. Regular visitors will recognize the home of photographer Louis Thiriot or the community hall, then a simple wooden structure. The bell tower of Saint-Martin Church is depicted closer than it actually is. It is, in fact, the subject of one of Auguin’s corrections.
