The result of Alexandre de Laborde’s (1773–1842) travels in Spain in the early 19th century, this work constitutes one of the most comprehensive descriptions of the country published at that time. The first three volumes constitute the itinerary proper and describe, in turn, the various provinces, their cities, monuments, and transportation routes; the last two provide an overview of Spain in terms of administration, the economy, agriculture, industry, commerce, population, the arts, and customs.
