Some wear to the top caps. Since the publisher reprinted out-of-print volumes as needed, this perfectly uniform series has varying publication dates depending on the volume. The illustrations include 9 frontispieces and 194 plates, most of which are fold-outs. Topics range from animals and plants to the manufacture of bells and the architecture of a galley. A famous popular science work intended for young people, covering not only the natural sciences but also the exact sciences, technology, and even issues of sociology and ethics.
