Enlisted as early as August 1792, he is commended for his exemplary conduct and his service as a “good republican.” The bottom of the document features superb and imposing handwritten signatures embellished with large pen initials: Captain Lalanne, commander of the company; Infantry Chief Capuets; Adjutant-Major Durriez; and Lieutenant Colonel David, who explicitly signed under his rank of “Second in Command.”An authentic original draft document from a military archive of the period (first entry in the register).
