Handwritten inscription in regulation pen: “Military Correspondence,” accompanied by a remarkable oval wet stamp in blue ink reading “THE MAJOR OF THE 61st ” (mark of the administrative officer of the 61st Line Infantry Regiment’s depot). Black claw-shaped stamp framed with “P.P.” (Port Payé) certifying postage-paid status. Authentic archival document from the War of 1870.
