This official U.S. Navy envelope serves as direct evidence of the final days of the global conflict in the Pacific.The envelope was mailed by a Medical Commander (HComdr MC USNR) from the famous hospital ship USS Rescue (AH-18), which was stationed in Japanese waters at the time for the liberation of prisoners of war.The item features a superb and highly sought-after period commemorative handwritten inscription in purple ink: “TOKYO BAY / FIRST LANDING.” It is originally franked with three U.S. stamps (including two airmail values featuring a red airplane), canceled by the official U.S. NAVY postmark.
