An early pioneer of abstraction, Jean Dewasne was among the leading advocates of a visual language based on formal rigor and the power of color, which he helped to promote in the postwar period. Executed in lacquer on panel, the work reflects the culmination of his explorations of smooth surfaces and chromatic saturation, where vivid flat areas of color and sharp contours organize a dynamic space of geometric interlacing. Through a masterful interplay of contrasts between warm and cool colors and a visual rhythm reminiscent of a musical score, the composition conveys a structured tension that evokes both architecture and the musicality inherent in his artistic approach.
