Auktionshaus Dr. Jürgen Fischer

1041 - Sculpture “Fireman” by Jan Fisar (born 1933 in Horovice, Czechoslovakia—died 2010). Opalescent hollow glass, freely formed, ground and polished, painted, with burned-in decals. Inscribed in a diamond-shaped sketch: J. FISAR 1989. H. 50 cm; W. 37 cm; D. 24 cm. Unlike most other Czech glass artists, Jan Fisar received a classical education in sculpture; this is still clearly evident in his glass objects. Some of his objects consisted of intricate compositions of sunken, hollow, and ground glass—a technique that is unique in the world. The free-form design of his “baroque” glass sculptures captivated viewers with the consistency of their expression and the originality of their dynamics. Through his work, he conveyed philosophical messages on the one hand, and on the other, he solved unique technological challenges with them.
