ALBERTO BIASI (b. 1937) TRAMA. 1960. Overlapping layers of perforated or punched paper mounted on wooden frames. 50.50 x 36 x 3.80 cm. Signed on the reverse: signature and date. The work is registered with the Alberto Biasi Archive under no. CO 46. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Alberto Biasi. Rilievi ottico-dinamici, Galleria Dep Art, Milan, in collaboration with the Alberto Biasi Archive, texts by Alberto Zanchetta, p. 94, no. 16, ill.The *Trame* series constitutes one of the foundational pillars of Alberto Biasi’s artistic research and marks, between 1959 and 1960, the beginning of his exploration of the phenomena of visual perception. Created by superimposing reticular surfaces and perforated paper, they stem from a desire to transcend the traditional conception of the pictorial surface, transforming the work into a structure capable of changing in response to light and the viewer’s gaze.Created in 1960, the work thus belongs to a crucial moment in the artist’s career, coinciding with the founding of Gruppo N in Padua. Through the overlapping and slight offset of the modular elements, the geometric structure generates interference, vibrations, and perceptual variations: the image is no longer static but appears to transform depending on the viewer’s position and lighting conditions. This principle would become central to Biasi’s entire optical-dynamic research and, more broadly, to the movements of Kinetic and Programmed Art.
