A WHITE OVERLAY AND SAPPHIRE-BLUE GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE IMPERIAL, PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, 1760-1820 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of shouldered globular form, with a convex oval foot, well carved with bats encircling ‘The Temple of Heaven’ amongst cloud scrolls to one side, the other side with bats and cloud scrolls all above a crashing wave ground Height: 5.8cm Provenance: Sotheby’s New York, Fine Chinese Snuff Bottles, 2nd December 1985, lot 20, (a copy of the original invoice available) For a similar bottle from the Ruth and Carl Barron Collection, Part VI, see Christie’s New York, September 13th, 2018, lot 642 The striking combination of white overlay on a vibrant cobalt blue glass is unusual and dynamic.
