Japanese Meiji Archaistic Chilong Dragon Bronze Vase Late 19th century, Japanese Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Unknown Materials: Bronze Marking(s): Old inventory stickers on bottom read "JE #17". Cataloguer's Note: This is an antique Japanese bronze vase designed in a Chinese archaistic style with a traditional one-clawed "Chilong" dragon wrapping around the neck. During the late 19th-century Meiji period, Japanese metalworkers became highly fascinated with ancient Chinese history. They created a massive genre of archaic revival bronzes. The sleek, elongated silhouette and smooth, dark-chocolate patination of the vase neck are heavily characteristic of Meiji-era exports. H 9.25" x W 3" Condition: Good antique condition.
