Round porcelain dish with heraldic decoration for the French market (Pascal de Kerenveyer), China. Qianlong period (1736–1795), circa 1760. The dish is decorated in “Famille Rose” glazes, featuring floral motifs and the coat of arms of the Pascal de Kerenveyer family on the rim, Gules, a silver Paschal Lamb bearing a crossed banner gules; a chief azure (here gules), charged with a silver crescent, flanked by two gold stars. Provenance: J.M. Béalu et Fils, 3 rue du Bac, 75007 Paris Dimensions: 25.5 cm Two small chips on the reverse. The Pascal de Kerenveyer family is based in the Léon region, around Roscoff and Plougoulm. The family is associated with the Kerenveyer manor in Plougoulm. The commission can be attributed either to Joseph de Pascal de Kerenveyer (1685–1762), a second lieutenant in the Limousin Infantry Regiment in 1707, promoted to major on January 13, 1741, lieutenant colonel on April 11, 1742, and brigadier in the King’s armies on May 1, 1745, and later a Knight of the Order of Saint Louis; or to his son, François-Nicolas Pascal de Kerenveyer (1729–1794), an ensign in the Limousin Regiment, who rose to the ranks of lieutenant, adjutant, and then captain. The latter went on to have a long career: major of the Berry Regiment in 1771, lieutenant colonel in 1781, brigadier in 1784, and then field marshal in 1788. He was made a Knight of the Order of Saint Louis on March 3, 1763. He eventually became a major general in 1793. He was also a writer and poet, in both French and Breton. He is notably the author of *Ar farvel göapaër* (*The Mocking Jester*), a libertine work comprising tales, poems, and a comic opera—an extremely unusual work in 18th-century Breton literature, which was then largely dominated by religious texts. This work is sometimes mistakenly attributed on the art market to a “Keranverger” family.
