Decorative Arts Offinger, I. Collection of 12 drawings and designs. 1895. Some are watercolor drawings in ink and pencil. Various sizes. Some mounted on vellum. Each signed and dated. Collection of applied arts designs, as well as ornamental and floral designs and studies. Includes a “lithography stand” and a design for a piano panel. - A collection of three design drawings from the circle of the historicist Vienna School of Applied Arts, executed in pen, gouache, and pencil. The sheets exemplify the practice of decorative arts pattern drawing in the 1890s and demonstrate the interweaving of precise botanical observation with a historicizing repertoire of forms—a characteristic of this educational tradition. The sheets bear the location “Vienna” and a date in the early 1890s, suggesting they were created in the immediate vicinity of the Vienna School of Applied Arts or a comparable training institution for goldsmiths, stucco artists, and furniture designers. The three sheets are clearly by the same hand and together form an instructive example of the breadth of arts-and-crafts design practice in Historicism—ranging from precious small objects to large-scale architectural ornamentation. Some with heavier surface discoloration along the edges and foxing. Overall, the drawings are in good condition. Collection of 12 drawings and designs. 1895.
