Pierre Castignola Times Four Armchair Sculptural armchair Polypropylene, aluminum, and stainless steel 2024 H75 L70 P90 cm A 2018 graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, Pierre Castignola uses the one-piece plastic chair—the world’s most common industrial object—as the raw material for his work. With “Times Four,” he cuts and reassembles elements from several dark green chairs: backrests, armrests, seats, and bases intertwine to form a single volume, punctuated by exposed fasteners. The resulting armchair questions mass production, the value of objects, and the concept of the original. It is a work that is both critical and playful, situated at the intersection of design and conceptual art.
