Carlo Nason (born in 1935) LT346 Table lamp Molded opaline crystal H54 L41 cm Opaline, a milky, translucent glass, is one of the preferred materials for Murano lighting fixtures due to its ability to diffuse soft, even light. Carlo Nason, who comes from a family of glassmakers on the island, uses it here in a generously proportioned table lamp, where the molded crystal gives the form a sharpness of contours that glassblowing alone would not allow. When unlit, the lamp appears as a sculptural object with milky tones; when lit, it becomes a source of enveloping light. A piece representative of modern Venetian lighting design.
