In Square I, Marc Lambrechts explores themes centered on materiality, color, and geometry. The square format—a neutral and stable form par excellence—serves as a framework for surface treatment in which the materiality of the support plays a central role in the work. This approach is in line with abstract and minimalist explorations that focus on painting as an object rather than as an image. The small, metal-framed format gives the work a concentrated, almost precious presence that invites close observation.
