Vente terminée

Vico Magistretti Maralunga A sofa with generously padded sections, combining a deep seat with enveloping armrests. The upper section of each of the two backrests can be raised or lowered independently, allowing the backrest to be adjusted to each user’s preferred position. The mechanism, patented by Cassina and concealed within the upholstery, uses a bicycle chain. This distinctive articulation transforms the sofa’s silhouette while prioritizing comfort. Produced by Cassina, Italy — Collection 675 Designed in 1973 H72 L166 D95 cm A 1945 graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, Vico Magistretti designed furniture and lighting fixtures with clear, legible forms for Cassina, Artemide, and Oluce, always with functionality in mind. The Maralunga, created in 1973 and awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979, is one of his most famous examples. Its design principle lies in a single detail: the top of each backrest can be raised or lowered independently, thanks to a mechanism concealed within the upholstery, allowing each user to adjust the level of support. An icon of Italian design, where comfort stems from a discreet technical innovation.
