Eight aluminum panels are connected using stainless steel screws, making the piece disassemblable and transportable flat. The radical simplicity of the AL Desk gives center stage to the interplay of proportions and materials that lie at the heart of Johan Viladrich’s work. On the scale of a desk, Johan Viladrich applies the constructive principle that underpins his work: eight aluminum plates, assembled with stainless steel screws, are all that is needed to form the piece, which can be disassembled and transported flat. Nothing is added to this structure, which in and of itself constitutes the design. The brushed and then waxed finish gives the metal a soft, satin-like surface that captures light without reflecting it.
