Italian ceramicist Simone Negri pushes stoneware to the limits of its resilience: the form emerges from the manipulation of the material, then set by firing, without attempting to erase the traces of the process. The black glaze unifies the surface and transforms each fold into a line of shadow. Through its scale and density, the work fits into the tradition of Italian sculptural ceramics, from Leoncillo to Nino Caruso.
