NORWAY, 18th–19th CENTURY Daybed Carved and turned wood Upholstery and leather restored in the late 19th–early 20th century. H80 W210 D83 cm Beautiful patina from use. Wear, marks, scratches, and variations in the leather’s color; signs of use, minor imperfections, and previous restorations to the frame, consistent with the piece’s age. A substantial daybed with four turned posts, whose lower crossbars feature a carved design of scales or stylized leaves. The sides are punctuated by slender balusters, and the base, designed as an openwork gallery, echoes this motif between two powerfully turned posts. This repertoire of turned wood, very common in Norwegian rural furniture, gives the piece an almost monumental architecture. The brown leather, secured with upholstery tacks and reupholstered at the turn of the 21st century, adds a warm patina to this piece, which is rare for its size.
