20 - Bruno Mathsson

Bruno Mathsson Book Crib Book holder Teak and beech Firma Karl Mathsson, Värnamo, Sweden Date of creation: 1941 H25 L50.5 P27 cm Signs of wear and a small chip on one corner With the Book Crib, Bruno Mathsson applies the logic that governs his chairs to the smallest of household objects: a form dictated by use and gesture. Books rest at an angle, with their spines visible, in an open cradle that makes them easy to browse. The design, remarkably minimalist, dates from the years when Mathsson was refining his vocabulary of curves and light-colored woods, before his postwar international recognition.
