Mido Limited - Multi-Centerchrono (*) An anti-magnetic vintage wrist chronograph with a central 60-minute counter, 24-hour display, tachymeter, and telemeter scale, produced for the U.S. market Movement No. 220, Cal. 1300, Case No. 813813, Dimensions 35 mm, circa 1950, Origin: Switzerland, Original box Case: Gold-plated, steel screw-down back, Brit. Pat. 385509 (Improvements in fluid-tight watches by Taubert et Fils, Geneva), anti-magnetic protection cap. Dial: Silvered, taupe, and black. Movement: Manual-winding. This Multi-Centerchrono features a three-color dial with charmingly aged, luminous Arabic numerals and sword-shaped luminous hands, as well as a telemeter scale and a circumferential tachymeter scale in miles. The Mido company was founded in 1918 by George G. Schaeren in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The name “Mido” comes from the Spanish expression “Yo mido” and means “I measure.” In the 1920s, Mido launched colorful enamel wristwatches for women in extravagant designs and with modern bracelets, as well as Art Deco-style wristwatches for men. The legendary Multicenterchrono, which entered mass production in 1941, was the first chronograph capable of displaying elapsed time with centrally mounted hands positioned directly in the center of the dial—thus ensuring perfect readability during time measurement. The chronograph’s minute and second hands, as well as the standard hour and minute hands, were all positioned at the center of the dial rather than in subsidiary dials at 3, 6, or 9 o’clock—hence the name “Multicenterchrono.” Case: very good. Dial: very good, slightly oxidized. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species—such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard—are used in our catalog or on our website for illustrative purposes only. For customs-related reasons, such straps cannot be shipped outside the EU.
