Zenith / Van Arcken & Co. - Pivoted Detent Chronometer (*) A very rare precision hunting-case pocket watch with a pivoted detent chronometer escapement Movm. No. 1157854, Case No. 1086390, Dimensions 54 mm, circa 1911, Weight 112 g, Origin Switzerland Case: Silver, smooth. Dial: Enamel. Movement: 1/2-plate movement, gold screw-compensated balance. Van Arcken & Co. was a prominent jewelry and trading firm that operated from 1861 to 1958, maintaining branches in Batavia (now Jakarta) and Soerabaja (now Surabaya). The company held the title “Horloger de la Cour” (Watchmaker to the Royal Court of the Netherlands). For the local market in the colonies, Zenith supplied Van Arcken with exclusive precision pocket watches, often featuring chronometer escapements or special fine adjustments based on patents by Charles Rosat. These watches also bore the Van Arcken & Co. signature either on the dial or inside the case back. Case: very good, slightly worn. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
