Special commissions for the Middle East—such as the Omani Khanjar Rolex watches featuring the traditional dagger emblem of the Sultanate of Oman on the dial—are highly coveted treasures for any discerning watch collector. They are part of a special order placed by Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said of Oman (1940–2020), an avid watch enthusiast, who in the early 1970s commissioned several Swiss manufacturers, including Rolex, to produce watches bearing his coat of arms. These pieces were intended as personal gifts for dignitaries and close associates in recognition of exceptional service. The watches were sold through the London retailer Asprey and were never available to the general public. The gilt dial of this Rolex Date features the red Khanjar emblem above the 6 o’clock position. It is in beautiful condition. The watch was serviced at Rolex in 2021. Case: very good, showing signs of wear. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species—such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard—are used in our catalog or on our website for illustrative purposes only.
