Dial: Silvered, applied gold hour markers with luminous dots and fluorescent alpha hands. Movement: Automatic. In 1997, A. Lange & Söhne launched the “LANGEMATIK Sax-0-Mat,” available with or without a date display and featuring an engraved and finely finished 21k gold and platinum micro-rotor. This was the first automatic wristwatch ever produced by this Saxon manufacturer of high-end timepieces. The model also features a reset function for the second hand, known as ZERO RESET. The second hand automatically jumps to zero when the crown is pulled out, hence the “0” in the name “Sax-0-Mat.” In 1997, the reverse and reduction gear of the automatic winding mechanism—featuring four micro ball bearings—was considered state-of-the-art.
