B. Junge & Söhne A rare Glashütte silver pocket watch Movement No. 1300, Case No. 1300, Dimensions 52 mm, circa 1900, Weight 101 g, Origin: Germany Case: Silver, guilloché pattern. Dial: Enamel. Movement: 3/4-plate movement, lever escapement, gold-screw-compensated balance. In the late 19th century, watch and clock wholesaler J. Bernhard Junge from Dresden was one of the most famous figures in the German watchmaking industry. In 1891, he shifted from retailing timepieces to manufacturing them and established a manufactory together with his sons—this marked the birth of the B. Junge & Söhne brand. Like most manufacturers in Glashütte at the time, the individual components were produced by local cottage industry specialists. The timepieces known today bear serial numbers between 1,000 and 1,300. Watch production in Glashütte ceased in 1901. Since the company produced only pocket watches in Glashütte for about a decade, only a few watches from the B. Junge & Söhne production run are known today. The company advertised the fact that it was able to obtain an observatory certificate for all its watches. Case: very good, slightly scuffed. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
