LETTERS PATENT OF ENNOBLEMENT FOR GEORGES MERGEZ (1772–1846), ADJUTANT COMMANDER, AS BARON OF THE EMPIRE On vellum with the letterhead “Napoleon, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine, Mediator of the Swiss Confederation.” Coat of arms painted in natural colors in the upper left corner (signs of wear). Dated September 19, 1810, at Saint-Cloud. Signature of Cambacérès and a fine signature of Emperor Napoleon I (“NAPOLE”). With its ribbons and red wax seal depicting the Emperor in majesty and the grand imperial coat of arms (minor chips).
