A RARE RUSSIAN GRENADIER'S MITRE, NAPOLENIC WARS ERA, EARLY 19TH CENTURY A rare Russian grenadier's mitre from the era of the Napoleonic Wars, with its brass front showing a crowned, double-headed eagle bearing a shield on its chest with a stylized 'N', a sword and orb in its talons, flaming bomb grenades to each side. The eagle is set beneath a radiant medusa head. The hat curves forward and tapers toward the tip, which is affixed with a round finial topped by a short red plume. The whole helmet lined with red fabric on the exterior. Russia, c. early 19th century. Dimensions: H: 17 3/4 in., (45.1 cm.) Condition: Dented throughout, as is usual for these uncommon survivals.
