Two framed pieces of memorabilia including the April 2000 issue of National Geographic magazine, featuring a Great White Shark on the cover and an article by Peter Benchley. The magazine is professionally mounted in a double-sided silver-toned metal frame with white matting, allowing for the display of the Behind the Scenes page on the verso, which includes photographs of author Peter Benchley and photoengineer Walter Boggs with sealcams. The second item is a color C-print photograph depicting Michael Richey during the production of the film The Deep. The photograph is housed in a silver-toned metal clip-back frame. The photograph is unsigned. 13 1/4" H x 9 3/4" W x 5/8" D. From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940-2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation. Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier and Environmental Defense Fund. CONDITION: The underwater photograph exhibits a significant area of surface abrasion and emulsion loss along the right white border. There is noticeable discoloration and fading at the bottom edge of the photo image. Both metal frames show minor surface scuffing and light wear consistent with age. A small amount of dust is trapped beneath the glass of the clip-back frame. NOTICE TO BIDDERS: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. Complete condition information is available by request, please request no later than 24 hours prior to the auction. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
