Thomas M. Hoyne (American, 1924-1989). Offset lithograph, Fog Peril, 1978. The maritime scene represents the Gloucester fishing schooner L.A. Dunton on Georges Bank. Signed and numbered 544/780 in pencil in the lower right margin. The plate is signed and dated in the lower left. Housed in a gilt-wood frame with a linen-textured mat. The verso displays two adhesive labels for Guild Gallery. Sight: 21 x 26 7/8 in. Frame: 34 7/8 x 38 3/4 x 2 in. Prints from the same walls: Hoyne's Gloucester schooners and Geoff Hunt's Blue at the Mizzen, the cover art of a Patrick O'Brian novel. Peter read the sea the way he read books, and these hung among the paintings in the family home. From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940-2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation. Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier and Environmental Defense Fund. CONDITION: The print appears in good overall condition with no visible foxing, tearing, or fading. The linen-textured mat exhibits slight toning consistent with age. The gilt-wood frame shows minor scuffing and light discoloration along the edges. NOTICE TO BIDDERS: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. Complete condition information is available by request, please request no later than 24 hours prior to the auction. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
