ORIENTAL CARPET, fine Isfahan or Kashan “Sherkat-e Farsh.” Approx. 242 x 140 cm. Central Persia, probably circa 1950–1960. Fine cork wool; cotton warp and weft threads, some with silk accents along the contours. Features the original sewn-on fabric label from the state-owned Persian carpet company “Sherkat-e Sahami-ye Farsh-e Iran” (featuring the imperial lion-and-sun emblem) as well as a handwritten inventory label (including dimensions “242 / 140”). A masterfully knotted, classic example of Persian craftsmanship from the mid-20th century. The central field captivates with a luminous, deep brick red, interspersed with an exceptionally dense, elegantly curving system of floral tendrils (islimi), fork-leaf motifs, and magnificent Shah Abbasi palmettes. The design follows a strict, perfectly balanced vertical and horizontal symmetry that creates remarkable optical depth. The opulent central field is framed by a wide, ivory-colored main border, patterned with alternating floral cartouches and finely detailed rosettes. This is flanked by narrow accompanying bands featuring geometric-floral wave tendrils on a dark blue and gold background. The exceptionally fine knotting of fine, lustrous cork wool not only gives the rug a velvety feel but also masterfully highlights the delicate contours of the floral patterns. The presence of the original fabric label from Sherkat-e Sahami-ye Farsh-e Iran underscores the high quality standard and the museum-quality, collector’s status of this sophisticated piece. Very well preserved, with an evenly high, soft pile. Original Shirazi (side borders) and fringed edges. NO SHIPPING TO THE U.S.
