UTAGAWA KUNISADA (1786–1865) "Triptych Featuring Kabuki Actors" 1820–1830 Edo period, circa 1820–1830. Color woodblock print on paper. Each approx. 37.5 x 24.5 cm. Each signed Gototei Kunisada ga “五渡亭国貞画” with censor’s seal and publisher’s mark. Three-panel Kabuki triptych depicting three well-known Edo-period actors in their signature roles: "Matsumoto Kōshirō" as the legendary Heike warrior Akushichibyōe Kagekiyo, with his sword drawn and a strikingly expressive facial expression. "Iwai Tojaku" in an onnagata (female) role, striking a dynamically sweeping pose in a blue-patterned kimono. "Nakamura Shikan" as Okabō, depicted against a radiating light motif with a temple attribute. Each sheet is mounted over its entire surface onto a cardboard backing. Age-related browning of the paper, isolated tears, and missing sections along the edges have been professionally reinforced and repaired. Colors are worn in places, but the overall impression is good. Frame, HxW: 60/47 cm.
