Fifteen original lithographs by Henri Michaux. Paris, Hermann, 1983. Folio size, loose-leaf, hardcover, in the publisher’s straw-yellow cloth slipcase. First edition of the French translation. The first of the 10 special copies, featuring an original gouache signed by Henri Michaux and the complete set of fifteen lithographs, numbered and signed, printed on Japanese paper. Henri Michaux had great admiration for the Russian poet Vadim Kozovoï (1937–1999), a translator of Blanchot, Rimbaud, Lautréamont, Gracq, Char, and Mallarmé, and a connoisseur of French literature. He had been interned for several years in Soviet camps. He translated Michaux on two occasions and received significant support from Michaux when he settled in Paris around 1981.
