KLAUS FUSSMANN (born 1938 in Velbert; works in Gelting and Berlin) Forget-Me-Nots and Poppies, 2016 Watercolor on handmade paper. 20 x 20 cm. Framed behind glass in a mat with the artwork exposed. Dated (20)16 and signed in the lower right corner. Since the 1970s, Fussmann has been tending his own flower garden in Gelting on the Baltic Sea, and he paints whatever is blooming there at the time—snowdrops in February, followed by roses, delphiniums, poppies, and forget-me-nots. This painting also stems from that cycle of the seasons, and it demonstrates why Fussmann is considered one of the most significant colorists in contemporary German painting.
