Babeli Giezendanner 1831–1905 Homestead and Tannery in Schmiedenbach, 1880 Pencil, watercolor, and white overpainting on paper Handwritten inscription on the reverse: “Homestead and Tannery in Schmiedenbach, built by my great-grandfather Heinrich Wälly gbr, 1730.” † 1809. House on the right built by Michael Wälly, born 1759, † 1826. Extension on columns added in 1825. Built by Niclaus Wälly, born 1790, † 1857. An extension to the upper house was built in 1868 by Mr. Wälly, born in 1828. This picture was taken in 1880 by a Mrs. Ämisegger, née Giezendanner, the daughter of a teacher from Kappel. At that time, my business was at its peak, with 24 tanning pits and 3 over-tanning pits. Annually, 1,400–1,600 hides were processed. Times have changed. January 1907. 20.5 x 36 cm (image)
