186 - A rare small clock in the form of a chariot

A rare small clock in the form of a chariot made of gilded bronze, depicting a female allegory (Epimelide) on a chariot drawn by two sheep. The rectangular base rests on four bell-shaped feet. It is adorned with floral motifs and flaming quivers on either side. The white-enameled ring dial displays the hours in Roman numerals, with Breguet-style steel hands. The suspension movement bears an engraved inscription reading “Bechot.” First third of the 19th century. With its balance wheel and key. H-27.5, W-23, D-8.5 cm. Restoration of the tail of one of the sheep; wear to the gilding on the bezel.
