19th-century French School Young woman, possibly Claire Piccinni, holding a portrait of Niccolò Piccinni, Oil on canvas Height: 32 cm ⎼ Width: 24 cm Provenance: Probably from the collection of Mr. Horace de Carbuccia. Our painting depicts a young woman, perhaps Claire Piccinni, holding a portrait of her father, Niccolò Piccinni. A composer of genius and master of opera buffa, Piccinni opposed Gluck’s principles of opera reform. This rivalry, which he would lose to dramatic opera, gradually led the composer into poverty during his final years. He nevertheless remains one of the great composers of the Classical period of the Neapolitan school. Expert: Cabinet Artéon
